Privacy policy.

Detour is built to collect as little as possible. There's no login, no account, and no form on this site that asks you for personal information. This page explains what little data does get collected, why, and what rights you have over it.
What we collect.
Detour doesn't have user accounts, and we don't ask you to submit personal details anywhere on the site.
We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, privacy-friendly tools built into the platform that hosts this site, to see which posts are useful and how fast pages load. Neither uses cookies or any other persistent identifier on your device, and neither tracks you across other websites. Because nothing is stored on your device and no individual visitor is identified, there's no cookie banner on Detour and nothing for you to opt in or out of.
Vercel Analytics records anonymised, aggregated data: which pages are viewed, the site or search engine you arrived from, and coarse details like country, device type and browser. Vercel Speed Insights records how quickly pages actually load for readers (Core Web Vitals), attributed to a page, not a person. In both cases, your IP address is used only momentarily, to work out that country-level location, and is not stored. On post pages, Analytics also records two events — that a post was viewed, and when you click an outbound link inside one (for example, to a ticket seller or airline) — tagged with the post and the destination link, never with anything that identifies you personally. This data is processed by Vercel Inc., who host this website, and is only ever used in aggregate; we can't use it to pick out an individual visitor.
If you email us at hello@godetour.co.uk, we'll obviously have your email address and whatever you tell us. We use that only to reply to you, and don't add it to any list or share it on.
Third-party links.
Most links on Detour lead to third parties, ticket sellers, airlines, booking sites and hotels, so we can point you to the actual thing you'd be buying. Some of these are affiliate links; see our affiliate disclosurefor how that works. Once you click through to one of those sites, you're subject to their own privacy policy, not this one. We don't control what they collect and can't speak for how they handle your data. Check their policy directly if you're unsure.
Your rights.
Because we don't hold accounts or profiles on individual readers, there's very little personal data of yours for us to hold in the first place. Where UK GDPR does apply, for example if you've emailed us, you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it
- ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate
- ask us to delete data we hold about you
- object to how we're using it, or ask us to restrict that use
- complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've got it wrong

Changes to this policy.
